I just installed Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 on my computer for a C++ class. One of the assignments is to open up the physical IOSTREAM file and see what's actually inside. I searched for the terms iostream, iostream.h, %26lt;iostream%26gt;, and #include %26lt;iostream%26gt; on my computer, but i got back nothing. Also, I personally searched in the program file called Microsoft Visual Studio, nothing there either. Can someone please give me the adress (as in C:\Program Files.....) for the iostream library? or maybe an idea as to where to look?
also, I'm using Windows XP, if that helps.
Where is the iostream file located?
Here is a path on my Visual Studio 8 (2005)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\include
Hope that helps
RJ
Reply:On my system,
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\Include
E-mail me if you want me to send it to you.
Reply:I'll make two points worth noting. The first is, when looking for any of the standard library files (like iostream), look for it in the compiler's default include directory. You should see a folder somewhere in the Visual C++ folder for Include, so that's where it is. Because this is Visual C++ 6 (old), it's iostream.h, not iostream. I really recommend getting a modern compiler like MinGW or Visual C++ 2005.
Also, there is a second note worth mentioning. You aren't going to see source code in the iostream file. It has already been compiled and gets linked in when building your code. You will only see the headers, which contains some constant definitions, typedefs, and inlined code.

What do I enter in the location when working with ASP.NET web application in order to save my work?
I am working with Microsoft Visual Studio.Net 2003 at home. I need to create a Visual C# project using the template ASP.NET web application. I do not know what to state in the location.
I understand that it should be a URL but what exactly should it be?
Can a geocities or a free web hosting website do?
If so, how do I do it?
What do I enter in the location when working with ASP.NET web application in order to save my work?
If you want to host the application on the same machine, it should be http://localhost/%26lt;Virtual Directory%26gt;. You can also use %26lt;Virtualhttp://127.0.0.1/%26lt;Virtual Directory%26gt;
If you want to host on a machine within your local area network, you can use the name of the machine or the ip address of the machine. Type ipconfig from commadline to get the ip address of any machine.
%26lt;Virtual Directory%26gt; is the folder you creat for your application.
If you want to host it somewhere else, you need to FTP the files to the server then you can use the website's name.
I did not clearly understand your question. But I hope this helps.

I really want to get into programming!?
I'm taking a programming class at my high school, and I'm pretty sure I found my future career. First semester, we learned QuickBasic, and in the second semester, we are learning Visual Basic. I really want to study some other languages like C#, C++, or Java, but I have a few questions:
1) Which language would be the best to learn on my own first?
2) There have to be other methods other than Microsoft Visual Studio for making programs. Are these called compilers? If not, what are they called? Which ones would you recommend that I use?
3) If I were to buy a book on Visual C# or Visual C++, would the free Express Editions still be able to carry out the tasks that the books will teach you?
I really want to get into programming!?
The very EASIEST language to learn first is VB in the .NET framework.
You can actually down load a free copy of Visual Studio Express from Microsoft's website. And yes, they are complete. You can write any program in the Express editions that you could write in the more expensive purchased versions of Visual Studio.
The best books that I, personally, would recommend, are the series entitled "Teach Yourself --- in 21 Days" and "Teach Yourself --- in 24 Hours" - with 21 or 24 lessons (chapters) respectively. (You replace the "---" with the name of the programming language you want to learn.) These books are put out by SAMS, and any Barnes %26amp; Nobles will carry them.
I say to you, good luck, and have fun :-) I think programming is GREAT fun!
Reply:Learn C/C++ Most languages are built off of what this language did. Then you can either move on to C# or Java.
There are other compliers but Microsoft is probably the biggest driving force behind teaching langagues and so thats why you use that product.
Java is done differently then through Microsoft because its more open source.
Borderland did have some C/C++ compliers but they just didn't compare to Microsoft.
Probably most things the any book would have on C++ or C# would work with the free edition. you might miss something things, but that would be more on Visual Studio then it is in learning C#.

How can I setup a dual boot configuration with Vista and XP?
Im sure youre aware of this-- but windows vista sucks. I like the interface of it, but thats all it has. I want to still keep it since its slowly getting better (especially since microsoft final released a vista compatible version of the XNA studio for visual c#), but I want to get XP back so I can still use it when vista is doing something stupid. I tried to install XP after my vista upgrade and it wouldnt let me because vista is the newer version. I know that its possible to dual boot xp and vista because people are doing it... but I think they may have been using xp and added vista and not the other way around like im trying to do.
Is there any way to just add xp without removing vista first.. or am I destine to be stuck with vista forever?
How can I setup a dual boot configuration with Vista and XP?
no i dont think that you can do this.. you definitely need to remove vista first..
Reply:yes you can do a dual boot with xp/vista, it is not stable at the moment. I have XP pro and vista 64 and ended up repartitioning my hard drives. The simple way is install xp on a newly created partition of a blank machine give it 50 gb then switch to vista and do the same. Currently if vista sees the xp partition and certain file versions it tries to load some of them with disastrous consequences.
You can do it the other way around but you need to have blank space which you can turn into a partition dedicated for xp. also if you are going to run programs you will have to install them separatly on different partitions.

RightTriangle function for C++?
The book I am consulting is Gary Bronson, C++ for Engineers and Scientists, Second Edition, Course Technology, 2006, ISBN 0-534-99380-X
I’m using Microsoft Visual Studios 2005 .
So here is what I’m attempting to do:
1. Write a function rightTriangle that accepts two double arguments (the two sides of a right triangle a, and b) and returns one double value (the length of the hypotenuse). The function prototype should be defined in file student.h and the function itself should be written in file student.cpp.
2. Write a program in Main.cpp that reads the two sides from a file, uses the function rightTriangle to calculate the hypotenuse length, and writes all three values to an output file.
3. Execute the program using the following triangle side input.
First Side (a) Second Side (b)
3 4
5 12
12 16
2.8 4.5
The problem is that I cannot get the function to strip values from my inFile. It says that inFile is an undeclared indentifier in my function
RightTriangle function for C++?
are you declaring that you are using a file? usually you have to use the file package
#include %26lt;fstream%26gt; in the beginning. then you need to declare your files...
ifstream inputfile.open("input.txt");
ofstream outputfile. open("output.txt");
that should fix your input problem

Debug Assertion Failed! Error.. PLEASE HELP!?
I've recently ran into this problem and after researching both online and the Microsoft website i find myself very confused and unable to solve the problem. It occurs when using my yahoo messenger. I get the following message:
Debug Assertion Failed!
Program:C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.ex...
File: c\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\list
Line:776
Expression: list erase iterator outside range
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure,

After hitting Retry it closes completely out of yahoo. Could you please offer me some type of assistance.. Ive racked my brain today trying to figure it out. Ive deleted and reinstalled my yahoo, checked and made sure i had all the current updates, i even ran several registry clean ups trying to fix it. and nothing seems to work.
I'd really really appreciate your help as soon as you can get back with me. Thanks again, Derek
Debug Assertion Failed! Error.. PLEASE HELP!?
This sounds like some sort of compilation error,but it would be on the machine where the code was compiled (ie:at the Yahoo end) so I can't understand why you are getting the error.
I would suggest that you do a general clean up by deleting temporary files,cleaning internet history,run adware and spyware scans etc and because you need visual basic runtime files to run this sort of application search Microsoft site for a service pack for visual basic 6.(I think the file would be called vbrun60sp6.exe or similar) this will ensure that you have the latest runtime files for applications that use visual basic.
hope this helps
